Care instructions

Homemade soaps will last a long time as long as they are able to “drip dry”. Please keep your soap bar on a tray that allows water to drip, as opposed to letting it sit in a puddle or stream of water. I want you to enjoy your soap for as long as possible. Please consider purchasing an oak soap deck in my shop to help with this.

Where else can I find In The Buff Soaps?

What is Saponification?

Saponification is the name of the chemical reaction that produces soap. In the process, oils and butters are converted into soap (a fatty acid) and alcohol. The reaction requires a solution of an alkali (sodium hydroxide or lye) in water and also heat. This makes the difference between real soap and commercially manufactured soap (which is made with detergents and includes the removal of the natural glycerin that is produced by the natural soap making process). I use the cold process method, and occasionally the hot process method of soapmaking. All of my handmade soaps are cured for at least 5 weeks.
